By creating an account, submitting a profile, posting a job opening, or otherwise using the Syria Experts platform (the "Platform"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

Syria Experts connects Syrian diaspora professionals with organizations working on Syria's reconstruction and development. The Platform is not limited to standard employment — opportunities posted through it may include paid roles, volunteering, consultancy, and mentoring, among others. The Platform lets:

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Platform. By using it, you confirm that you meet this requirement. We do not currently verify age, and we rely on this confirmation.

If you are creating an account on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to do so and to bind that organization to these Terms.

When you submit a candidate profile, you are representing that the information in it — your identity, experience, education, and any other details — is true and belongs to you.

What becomes public once your profile is approved: your name, professional title, location (country/city), an approximate position on the map rounded to about a kilometre, profile photo, areas of expertise, skills, education level, years of experience, and languages. This information is visible to anyone browsing the Platform.

What is shared only with approved organizations: your email address, biography, whether you would consider relocating to Syria, your preferred Syrian governorate (if provided), and time-limited access to your CV. Organizations only gain this access after we have reviewed and approved their organization account. See Section 7 for what organizations may and may not do with this information.

You can hide your profile from the public directory and employer search at any time from your account — this keeps your information stored but not visible to anyone. To request full deletion of your profile, account, or associated data, contact us at info@syriaexperts.com; this is currently handled manually rather than as a self-service control.

When you create an organization account, you are representing that you are authorized to act on behalf of that organization and that the information you provide about it is accurate.

Opportunity listings — whether for employment, volunteering, consultancy, mentoring, or another form of engagement — must describe something real and genuine. We reserve the right to reject or remove any listing that is misleading, discriminatory, unrelated to Syria's rebuilding effort, or that otherwise violates these Terms.

We review organizations before approving them, but this review does not constitute an endorsement, guarantee, or verification of the organization beyond what our review process covers. Candidates should exercise their own judgment when engaging with any organization or opportunity found through the Platform.

This section applies to any organization approved to access candidate information beyond what is publicly visible.

Organizations may use candidate information only to evaluate candidates for genuine, current opportunities — employment, volunteering, consultancy, mentoring, or otherwise — related to the organization's approved profile and purpose, and to contact candidates directly about such opportunities.

You retain ownership of the content you submit (your profile, CV, opportunity listings, and similar material). By submitting it, you grant Syria Experts a license to store, display, and process that content as necessary to operate the Platform — for example, showing your profile to approved organizations, or including it in the directory.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit any content you upload, including your CV and any images.

The Platform relies on third-party service providers to operate — for infrastructure such as hosting, data storage, and email delivery. On the Experts directory map, map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap; when the map loads, your device communicates directly with that provider's servers. The map is optional; the directory and its filters work fully without it.

We are not responsible for the independent practices of third-party services beyond our agreements with them, though we choose providers with data handling appropriate to the sensitivity of what we hold.

The Platform's design, branding, code, and all content we create (as opposed to content submitted by users) belong to Syria Experts Inc. or our licensors. You may not copy, reproduce, or create derivative works from the Platform itself without our permission.

The Platform is provided "as is." We do not guarantee:

To the extent permitted by law, Syria Experts Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform, or from the actions of another user (including an organization's misuse of information in violation of Section 7). Our total liability for any claim relating to the Platform is limited to the greater of CAD $100 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

This section does not limit liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including in relation to gross negligence or willful misconduct.

We may suspend or terminate your account, or reject or remove any content, if we believe you have violated these Terms, misused candidate information, provided false information, or otherwise put another user or the Platform at risk. Where practical, we will explain why.

You may stop using the Platform and request account deletion at any time by contacting us at info@syriaexperts.com.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify active users before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Platform after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

These Terms are published in English. Any translation we provide is offered for convenience; if a translation and the English version differ in meaning, the English version governs.
